The ski season begins in Sierra Nevada
I am very excited as the ski season has finally started up in the Sierra Nevada! They have been using the snow cannons to make sure there are ski-able areas and thanks to some early snow there’s a record amount of runs open. I always feel better about it pouring with rain here if I know that it’s snowing up there!
If you want to see for yourself what’s going on up there, you can take a look at the Sierra Nevada webcam – it looks like there’s even some snow down to the village which is brilliant so early in the season. According to the website there’s 9 lifts open, 22 pistes open and over 17km of slopes which are good to ski on. It’s a sweet little resort which I’d recommend for beginners and intermediates. There are some good runs for the more advanced skiers too, but these are limited.
My top tip is to try to go up during the week and avoid weekends and holidays as it gets packed. We leave Marbella around 6am to ensure we get a parking space and get as much time on the slopes as possible and this has always worked well.
There are some excellent deals to be had if you are part of the Club Sierra Nevada and once you have your card you can pay in advance for the ski passes and ski hire online which is very handy. Unfortunately, you still have to queue to get your envelope of stuff once you get there, which is very frustrating but we haven’t found a way round this yet! Last year we used their deal which was parking, ski hire and ski pass for one day for 50€ which was excellent value, hopefully they will be doing the same offer this year.
Last year the conditions were amazing and if the start of the season is anything to go by then I have high hopes. We hope to go up there for a week this time to really get some serious skiing done, so if anyone knows of a good place to stay (which won’t break the bank) please comment on the post.

We usually stay at the Ziryab or, if we’re there for longer, somewhere in Granada. Often cheaper and you’re not stuck in the village if the lifts are closed. Cx

Thanks Charlotte, that’s really helpful I will look into both these options.
