Specsavers Mallorca collaborates with the Lions Club
During the month of May Specsavers Santa Ponça and Calvia Lions Club are running ‘Recycle for Sight Month’, a campaign to collect unwanted glasses across their local schools. The Lions Club is best known for fighting blindness worldwide and sends around 70,000 pairs of glasses to the Third World each year, every one donated and hand selected for specific people in need. They also help local Spanish residents in need through various fundraising events and projects.
The collaboration between Specsavers Santa Ponça and the Lions Club started during the Christmas period last year and they have already donated over 100 pairs of glasses. They were also able to help closer to home by supporting a local lady unable to afford glasses to help her see better.
Sandra Aertken, President of the Lions Club Palma de Mallorca commented “I would like to thank Specsavers for this support. The lady we were able to help is so happy with her new glasses and we couldn’t have done it without their help. We look forward to continuing our collaboration.”
Specsavers Store Director Martin Blake explains ‘we were looking for a local charity that helps with eyesight in some way, so the Lions club was the perfect choice. We have already been collecting customer’s old spectacles for the Lions to distribute to Africa, so we are proud to continue this aid by confirming our ongoing support for them during 2013. Please drop in your glasses to the store, every pair really helps.’
Donations of glasses can be dropped off at Specsavers Opticas Santa Ponça in Avda. Rei Jaume 1, 117. For more information call 871 964 331. For more information about Calvia Lions Club visit www.lionsmallorca.org
