Ski season starts early in Spain
As the song says “it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas” with the new wintery weather and host of festive events.
The Sierra Nevada ski resort just a few hours away from Marbella just announce that they are opening early this year on 23rd November and they are offering excellent low price ski passes between 23rd and 29th.
Looking at the web cams, there’s already a good coating of natural snow, supplemented by snow canons, although there’s not much down in the village. The areas open are limited to Borreguiles (around the top of the cable car) and Río (the long run down from the cable car to the village), but to reflect the limited ski area day passes will be just 25 euros for adults and 10 for kids until 29th. Temperatures are set to stay low over the next week, with light snow over night on Thursday and light winds, so things are looking good for the opening weekend.
We’ve just received word that the stunning El Lodge boutique hotel is opening on 29th November. This is the Marbella Club’s new venture which is reopening for its second season and offers luxurious, cozy accommodation with a quirky style and buckets of alpine charm. As you would expect from the Marbella Club it’s not cheap, but it does offer an unbeatable location right on the piste and a real mountain hideaway if money is no object. If you love the style but can’t quite cover the cost, the lovely terrace restaurant and bar is surprisingly affordable and the best place on the slopes for snacks, lunch, a cool cocktail or a hot chocolate.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
