Plastic Free Seas Worldwide fundraising and beach clean activities
Plastic Free Seas Worldwide was created to increase awareness about the 8 million tonnes of plastic which is being dumped into our seas every year. Their mission is to bring communities together, educate our youth and start making a difference to the carnage that we are subjecting our natural world to.
Since 2017 they have organised 10 beach clean ups, which have collected over 3,400 kilos of plastic from beaches along the Costa del Sol. Their biggest to date had 117 volunteers and collected over half a tonne of plastic from Cabopino Beach.
As well as these regular beach cleans, the charity is undertaking school outreach, as they understand that education is vital to stopping this problem long-term and they want to inspire the younger generation to live differently and respect our seas.
To fund the charity’s beach cleans and education projects, The Only Way is Essex star and Plastic Free Seas Worldwide’s Ambassador Elliot Wright, is holding a glamourous event at his restaurant Olivia’s in La Cala. The event takes place on the 22nd of November and there will be entertainment, a delicious 3-course meal with drinks and an auction. Tickets cost 60€ for a 3 course meal including drinks and 40€ without drinks and 10€ per ticket, plus the proceeds of the auction will be donated to Plastic Free Seas Worldwide.
They are also organising a beach clean-up on the 24th of November, which sets off from Olivia’s at 10am to collect plastics and rubbish along the La Cala beach. Elliot Wright and La Cala Town Hall representatives will be participating and everyone is welcome to come down and lend a hand.
The charity is asking for the community’s support to continue their great work. Businesses can donate prizes for the auction, help raise money for this great cause and promote their company. To donate an item, email details of the prize to plasticfreeseasworldwide@gmail.com.
To support the fundraiser, reserve your place at Olivia’s for a wonderful night of entertainment and food. Alternatively, head down to Olivia’s at 10am on Saturday 24th of November and help them to clean up this stunning stretch of coastline.
