Meet the Team – Silvina Navarro, Marketing & Sales Executive
Today we are speaking to Silvina Navarro, Marketing and Sales Executive at Shaw Marketing Services about her life in Spain and her work with the company.
Hi Silvina, where are you from?
I’m from Buenos Aires, Argentina. There I trained to be an Interior Designer and worked in the field of art and design. Art and design were always my strengths, but sales was in my blood from my father who was a born salesman!
What brings you to Spain?
I’ve studied English since I was very young and have always been in touch with foreigners to practice my English. This gave me the drive to travel and get to know other cultures. I visited New York first and then came down to the Costa del Sol in 2000 for a holiday. The weather and the tranquillity on the coast has made me stay here ever since and 11 years later I think of the Costa del Sol as my home.
What have you been doing since you came to Spain?
I have worked in Real Estate for a while (like many of us do when we arrive on the Costa del Sol) but I dedicated myself to create an online decoration and interior design company and thanks to this I discovered the importance of marketing and advertising for driving a business forward.
My strengths had always been sales and art, so the business did well. Unfortunately, the recession made the industry very tough for everyone in Spain and throughout Europe and the business couldn’t continue as before. I met Georgina in 2008 and we became good friends and she helped me get to know the world of marketing in order to help my business and learn a new skill. You could say that Georgina has been my mentor, she has discovered my skills in sales and communication and offered me a job working within her company to support Spanish companies with marketing. I haven’t only learnt that marketing and advertising can increase sales, but also that working in the world of marketing is fascinating.
How long have you been working with Shaw Marketing Services?
I started in 2010.
What do you like about working in a marketing company?
What I enjoy most is the totally professional way in which the company works, it makes the work more relaxing and better organised even though the volume of work is high. Also, I really enjoy working with the team at Shaw Marketing Services, they are enthusiastic and young with a lot of skills, organisation and efficiency. I am proud to form part of this team and they are the kind of business that the Costa del Sol needs.
What languages do you speak?
Spanish and English.
What is your role in the company?
I am the Marketing and Sales Executive working with the Spanish media to promote our clients. I also work with Georgina to support Spanish companies to promote themselves effectively within the expat market on the Costa del Sol. The foreign residents are an important market so Spanish companies need to be marketing direct to this target group to promote their products. However, the foreign market responds differently to the Spanish market, which is why they need experts in International Marketing who speak their language.
Shaw Marketing Services has marketing training from the UK and many contacts with the Spanish and International media. Due to this, we can help Spanish and International companies promote themselves effectively.
