Getting ready for Noche de San Juan
My favourite Spanish feria is Noche San Juan held on the summer solstice, which is next Tuesday 23rd June. The concept of this feria is that the water purifies you and the fire burns away old sins, so they light bonfires on the beaches and you wet your feet in the water at midnight.
From this slightly odd concept is born some of the best parties of the year and an amazing atmosphere. I’d urge you to do something for San Juan this year, whether it’s simply taking a barbecue to your nearest beach with friends, to hanging out by one of the big bonfires with some beers or spending it at a swanky beach club. Now that we’re based in Manilva, we’re very lucky that we can enjoy one of the best San Juan parties on the whole Costa del Sol in Sabinillas. They construct amazing tableaus here thanks to a local artist Juan Oliva which are then set alight at midnight. The music group Tentation will be performing from 10.15 for an hour, then the bonfires will be lit, and this will be followed by a fireworks display and then more live music. We went last year and it really blew us away, so we’re really excited about it this time and it will be a great way to celebrate the end of term for the kids. Read more about Noche San Juan in Sabinillas and keep checking Manilva Life for all the latest news.
We’ve just been sent information that Marbella Club will also be holding a San Juan celebration which is sure to be special, including live music, a bonfire, dinner, cocktails, face painting, hot dogs, candy floss and DJ. The Marbella Club really know how to throw a party, and their beach restaurant MC Beach is a beautiful, refined chiringuito. Tickets for this very chic way to spend San Juan can be bought by contacting their Guest Relations team or sending an email to sanjuan@marbellaclub.com.
Enjoy San Juan however you plan to enjoy it, go down to your local beach and check it out!!
