Georgina Recommends – Sawadee Thai Restaurant
This lovely little Thai restaurant opened its doors in November and has already got a lot of loyal fans for the authentic food, friendly staff and great atmosphere. We went a few weeks ago with some friends and were blown away by the flavours and variety and wanted to share our thoughts.
The Location – Sawadee is located in Torreguadiaro, a little village close to Sotogrande Marina. It has a row of great restaurants and Sawadee is near Pura Tapas and opposite the Dubliner. There is on street parking, but it can be limited, so it’s just a case of keeping your eyes open as you drive in.
The food – The team pride themselves on authentic Thai food, using fresh local ingredients of the highest quality and importing the key spices and ingredients which they can’t find locally each week from Thailand. Their chefs are all Thai and they have a great selection of classics and more unusual dishes that you won’t find on standard menus. The classic soups and Pad Thai were great, with lots of flavour and I loved the fact that the noodles came in a traditional egg pancake. We tried tempura chicken, which was delicious, a rich massaman curry with lamb and also a duck with red curry sauce which was amazing. This is top class Thai food, the best we’ve tried in the area for sure.
The service – You get a very warm welcome at Sawadee, all the staff are very helpful and friendly and take the time to explain the long menu and help advise on dishes which is great. They were lovely with our son and made everyone feel very comfortable. Because all the dishes are started from scratch they do take a little longer than normal to come, so we’d recommend enjoying a cocktail first!
The décor/atmosphere – This is a bijou restaurant, which is very cozy and pretty. It has a bold orange colour scheme with nice touches of Thailand and feels as nice in winter as in summer, which is perfect. They also have an outside area when it is warmer, which gives you more flexibility. Because of its size, it’s essential that you book a table to avoid disappointment!
The price – The food is of the highest quality and this is reflected in the price, so it’s not a cheap meal, but we felt that the food justified the price tag. As a guide, the chicken Pad Thai is 12.50€, fried rice starts from 10.95€, soups are 7.95€ and curries are 14.50€ with chicken. Check out the full menu
If you’re craving Thai food but you’re on a budget, try their lunch deal, which is amazing value – 3 courses for 14.95€! This is available during the week and is a great way to give them a try.
