Georgina recommends …… Matahambre

For tapas with a twist in a fun, vibrant environment I’d heartily recommend Matahambre. This is a chain with popular restaurants in Fuengirola, Estación de Cártama, Alhaurín el Grande, Marbella, Malaga, Jaén, Córdoba and Seville.

All the restaurants serve up a huge variety of intriguing and delicious tapas which is a far cry from the traditional. It is inspired by foods from all over the world, so you can have seared tuna with pickled ginger and wasabi mayonnaise, Thai-style crispy chicken with sesame seeds and a yummy dipping sauce, wraps filled with beef or chicken, roscas with various fillings, kebabs, blinis with fun toppings like hot-dog and crispy onions and much, much more. Beware, the menu is like a book and can be a bit daunting, but ask for advice and the helpful staff should be able to lead you through it, the Marbella one even has an English menu.

As well as the great food there is a huge selection of wines and various beers on tap. The house wines are good and again the staff will make recommendations. I am really impressed with the service, it’s very quick and efficient and the last time we went there the waitress was speaking to us in English, the next table in French and the rest in Spanish – amazing!

The prices are really reasonable too, last time we went with two friends, for lots of food and drink it was only 15€ per head, great value. Try not to get carried away by ordering too much, it’s easy to get over-excited by all the choice and the tables are quite small so it can be hard to fit everything on.

Location – From Ricardo Soriano, turn down to the beach at the Repsol Garage, go down to the 02 Centre and it’s on the left, third restaurant down, next to Casa Nostra.

Let us know if you’ve tried it and what you think.
