Don’t forget your glasses!
Visitors to Costa Women’s International Women’s Day Celebrations tomorrow at Andalucia Lab are kindly asked to bring along their unwanted glasses to donate to the Specsavers Opticas’ campaign to collect over 4,000 pairs of glasses for people in need.
Specsavers Opticas’ campaign to collect unwanted glasses runs until the end of April and glasses will be presented to the Lions Clubs International at the beginning of May to start their “Recycle for Sight Month” off in the best possible way. Specsavers Opticas and Lions Clubs International are committed to helping the world to see, and this collection will change lives in areas where people desperately need access to glasses.
After the glasses are donated in store they are sent to the Lions Club’s recycling plant in Alicante where they are first separated into single vision, bifocals, varifocals and sunglasses. They are then graded according to prescription strength, cleaned and boxed for distribution. Lions Club representatives are located across many developing countries including Africa and India. They test the eyes of locals and send requests for the required prescription glasses onto the fulfilment plant. Lions Clubs International collects around 70,000 pairs of glasses in their Alicante Centre to be re-dispensed every year, with each one being donated and hand selected for specific people in need.
If you would like to donate your glasses but can’t come to the event, you can drop them off at the stores in Marbella or Fuengirola before the end of April. To find your nearest store visit www.specsavers.es.
