Rusty Egan has been playing a big part in the UK club scene for over 25 years as a musician and as a highly influential DJ. As well as regular appearances at high profile gigs such as the Brit Awards and The Isle of Wight Festival, he is a music and fashion commentator for the media and plays on a weekly basis at London’s best clubs and parties.
Despite this hectic schedule, Rusty has found the time to come to Marbella and play a set at the After Show Party of The Millionaires’ Annual White Summer Party on 30th July.
Rusty’s Early Career
Although Rusty is now best known as a DJ, he has always been a passionate musician and in fact started his career in the late 1970s as a drummer for the British New Wave band ‘The Rich Kids’. This band was founded by former Sex Pistols Glen Matlock and featured Midge Ure on lead guitar and vocals, so he was immediately in good company for a successful career.
He went on to form Visage with Midge Ure and Steve Strange in the late 70s and early 80s to create exciting new music for the New Romantic club scene they so loved. Visage topped the charts throughout Europe with ‘Fade to Grey’ and they made two successful albums. Rusty then joined Scotland’s finest ‘The Skids’ as drummer, recording and touring the second top ten album ‘Days in Europa’.
DJ Days
During this early music career Rusty was already hosting club nights at Blitz nightclub in Great Queen Street, London, one of London’s most influential clubs during the 1980s. He is credited with bringing German electronica to the British Club scene as well as almost single-handedly putting together the soundtrack for the New Romantic Movement.
