Thank goodness it’s September!

[caption id="attachment_383" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="Celebrating the end of the summer"][/caption] I don't know about you, but I am very relieved to have August out of the way! As much as I love living in Marbella, August is insane - too hot, everywhere packed with tourists, terrible...

Why doing the things you love makes you healthy

Guest Blogger Anita Chaperon from FitHappyHealthy.com

This month I wanted to bring to your attention an often overlooked side of a healthy lifestyle.

Most of us think of dieting and exercising when we think of losing weight or just maintaining good health. But there is a much bigger underlying factor that will help or hinder your efforts.

The foundation of all your health related efforts is happiness and peace of mind.

No it’s not an airy-fairy unattainable thing.

And no it isn’t reserved specially for the more fortunate and richer echelons of society. It’s something that can be had every single day of our lives – if we were ready to work at it, and if we knew HOW to work at it.

Upcoming charity events

There are three events being held in September to raise money for great causes that I wanted to share with you. The first is being held this Sunday at the El Paraiso Country Club in aid of Manacare, the charity which is creating a community in...

Flamenco Marbella

I love Flamenco! For me the drama, noise and fun of it really typifies the Spanish and it’s great to be able to watch it live. There are many tourist places to watch flamenco which will offer you an amazing show, but I prefer the more authentic spit and sawdust places where the Spanish go.

A few weeks ago, we finally got around to visiting Tablao Flamenco Ana Maria which is tucked away in Marbella Old Town in Plaza Santa Cristo and it was fantastic. It’s held in the owner’s front room by the looks of it, with lots of little round tables with polka dot table cloths, a small bar and a wooden floor for the dancers. The night we went there were three female dancers, a fantastic old guy who sang and danced, a singer and three musicians one who also sang. They sit along the back of the dance space and essentially “jam” with the dancers getting up in turn and the musicians playing according to how they dance. It really is a great spectacle and some of the performances were incredible!

Marbella Summer Film Festival August 23-29

There is a week of free screenings taking place in Plaza Antonio Banderas in Puerto Banus from 23-29 August as an extension of the Marbella Film Festival which takes place in the Autumn.

Each evening starting at 9:30 pm, the festival offers some of the outstanding works from the past festivals, free of charge! The award winning films  scheduled for screening this August are from Spain, UK. U.S.A, Russia, Germany, Italy, Iran, Afghanistan, Argentina, Denmark, Ireland and India. There are short films, animation, documentaries and feature films in the original version with English or Spanish subtitles.

Detailed programs of the titles, subjects and times can be found in the Marbella Tourist Offices in Marbella and Puerto Banus, the Marbella Casino, Hotel H10 Andalucia Plaza and at the stands of Antonio Banderas plaza in Puerto Banus or online at www.marbellafilmfestival.com.

I’d really suggest you take advantage of this if you like culture. We went along to last year’s film festival and there was a great programme of films and entertainment, totally free, but hardly anyone was there! I think this is crazy when it’s such a great event, so this is your second chance to see some of the best bits. I hope you’ll be able to make it.

Here is the full programme:

Marketing Focus – It’s not just what you say…

Choosing the best style for a marketing message can be as important as the message itself. Imagine this: At a farm gate a hand lettered sign with pokerwork burnt into rough hewn wood reads: “Farm Fresh Eggs” In addition to being right for the freshness claim, the rustic...

Steve Hall – what an example to us all!

My friend Steve Hall is amazing! He was inspired by Bjorn Heidenstrom's epic journey to cycle and hitch-hike from Norway to South Africa in to raise funds and awareness of the plight of refugees. But rather than just give a donation he took a month to help with...
