Christmas Events taking place in Marbella

Thanks a lot to the website Marbella Family Fun for compiling an excellent list of Christmas Events taking place in Marbella. The ones that particularly catch my eye are ice skating in the Palacio de Congresos, which sounds very unlikely, but great fun, and free churros and...

Marketing Focus – Twitter

Back in 2009, a client asked me to research and write an article about how businesses can effectively use Twitter to promote themselves and I must say I was very skeptical. All I’d seen of Twitter up to then was people telling you every detail of their boring lives from being tired, to going to the shops, so frankly I didn’t think the article would be easy to write.

As part of my research I set myself up with a Twitter account and started to have a look around for business related information. To my surprise there was loads of excellent “Tweets” from businesses which linked to an informative article, made people aware of an event or promoted a special offer. I realized that actually Twitter holds great business potential and works in tandem with the other key social media tool, the blog, to expand your content and drive people to your website.

The ski season begins in Sierra Nevada

I am very excited as the ski season has finally started up in the Sierra Nevada! They have been using the snow cannons to make sure there are ski-able areas and thanks to some early snow there’s a record amount of runs open. I always feel better about it pouring with rain here if I know that it’s snowing up there!

If you want to see for yourself what’s going on up there, you can take a look at the Sierra Nevada webcam – it looks like there’s even some snow down to the village which is brilliant so early in the season. According to the website there’s 9 lifts open, 22 pistes open and over 17km of slopes which are good to ski on. It’s a sweet little resort which I’d recommend for beginners and intermediates. There are some good runs for the more advanced skiers too, but these are limited.

Georgina recommends …… Matahambre

For tapas with a twist in a fun, vibrant environment I’d heartily recommend Matahambre. This is a chain with popular restaurants in Fuengirola, Estación de Cártama, Alhaurín el Grande, Marbella, Malaga, Jaén, Córdoba and Seville.

All the restaurants serve up a huge variety of intriguing and delicious tapas which is a far cry from the traditional. It is inspired by foods from all over the world, so you can have seared tuna with pickled ginger and wasabi mayonnaise, Thai-style crispy chicken with sesame seeds and a yummy dipping sauce, wraps filled with beef or chicken, roscas with various fillings, kebabs, blinis with fun toppings like hot-dog and crispy onions and much, much more. Beware, the menu is like a book and can be a bit daunting, but ask for advice and the helpful staff should be able to lead you through it, the Marbella one even has an English menu.

Christmas on the Costa del Sol

[caption id="attachment_531" align="alignleft" width="225" caption="Christmas lights Marbella Old Town"][/caption] There's a definite chill in the air and the Christmas decorations are going up in shops and on the streets getting ready for December. One thing I really like about Spain is that the Christmas build-up doesn't...

Events at The New Black Cat Calahonda

If you live in the Calahonda area, you should check out the lovely New Black Cat Pub run by Marleen and her partner. It’s a nice place with a mix of Spanish and English customers and a pool table. When we lived there we used to enjoy going there for drinks and tapas.

Marleen has organised a number of events up to the end of the year that you can enjoy:
