How much should something cost and what does that say about it?

pricing strategyWhen you’re starting a new business or bringing a new product to the market one of the first things to consider is how much to charge for it.

The right pricing strategy is crucial to the success of any business. In its most simple form you need to define the boundaries between too cheap and too expensive – too low it won’t be profitable and too high and people won’t buy it. However, there’s so much more to it than that of course. The price you give your product or service will position itself in people’s mind as either the budget option, the middle of the road or the “quality” or the “premium” option so you need to decide where your product should sit in that pricing hierarchy.

Some clever people have made a fortune repackaging a fairly average product as premium and got away with selling it as more expensive purely through marketing. Stella Artois’ “reassuringly expensive” slogan is a good example of this. It really depends on your market and your consumer whether or not you can get away with positioning a product as premium, so do your research carefully before you take this route.

Opticians concerned that kids aren’t getting their eyes tested

In a survey conducted by Specsavers Opticas in Fuengirola to establish whether parents were taking their children to have their eyes tested, opticians were alarmed at the low incidence of those that were.

Opticians recommend a yearly eye test for children from three years old, yet the survey revealed that in Fuengirola only 42% of respondents with children between 6 and 12 years old had taken their children to have an eye test with an optician. This fact is even more surprising as 92% of the respondents felt that poor eye sight could affect their children’s performance at school.

Store Director of Specsavers Opticas in Fuengirola Amrik Sappal explains why eye tests are so important “Throughout our children’s early life parents should make sure that their eyes are healthy and that their vision is being corrected if required so they can thrive at school and lead a full life. Regular eye tests can detect problems with your vision and catch treatable conditions early, to protect your eyes and safeguard your vision. This is particularly important with children, as during the first 12 years of their lives, as much as 80% of learning is accomplished through vision, yet one out of every four children has an undetected vision problem that may inhibit their progress. This shows the crucial role that eye tests play in caring for our children’s health and why you should make sure their eyes are tested by a qualified optician every year.”

Menopause support Costa del Sol

In March, women on the Costa del Sol who are dealing with the menopause are invited to attend a free one hour seminar in Marbella or Estepona to find out about natural hormone replacement therapy and how it can help to treat the symptoms of menopause.

We are delighted to be working with the Long Life Clinic and La Chispa Magazine to present these useful seminars. They will be presented by Dr. Jean Garant Mendoza, a qualified Doctor and a specialist on hormones and longevity. Dr. Garant is one of the only medical practitioners in Spain to be offering Bioidentical hormones for the treatment of the symptoms of the menopause and he’s passionate about sharing his knowledge with women looking for an alternative to conventional HRT.

The seminars will be perfect for women currently experiencing the menopause or their families who want to learn about the alternative treatments to conventional HRT which are free from side-effects. They would also be suitable for women approaching menopause age who are looking for ways to deal with it when they start experiencing symptoms. It can be a daunting and distressing part of a woman’s life, so it’s best to have all the information you can!

Georgina recommends … Kyoto Japanese Restaurant

I love Japanese food, particularly sushi and have been delighted to see more Japanese restaurants popping up on the Costa del Sol. However, for me most of the restaurants here are prohibitively expensive and feel like a real rip-off so I don’t like to go there. A few months ago we were recommended Kyoto Japanese Restaurant in central Marbella by a friend and we haven’t looked back since. The food is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable for sushi, so it’s well worth a try. One thing you have to be prepared for though is a total lack of atmosphere as it’s normally empty and pretty ropey service, but in my opinion the food more than makes up for it.
