Meet the team – Eva George

Eva George has been working with Shaw Marketing Services since March 2011 as a Marketing Assistant. Here’s an interview with her so you can get to know her better.

Hi Eva, it’s great to have you working with us at the company, tell me a bit about yourself, let’s start with where you’re from and why you came to Spain?

I’m from sunny Suffolk, in England. Apart the obvious perks of Spain like the weather and lush beaches, I came here to live a better lifestyle and focus on the things I love most, like writing. The coast is a very inspiring place to live, and the possibilities are endless.

How long have you been here for?

I’ve been living here for just over 6 months! Since arriving in Spain, I’ve been lucky enough to land a job I love with Shaw Marketing Services. I’ve learnt so much in a short amount of time, and been lucky enough to have some of my written work and photography published. I’ve worked with some great clients, and some major publications while working with Georgina, writing press releases, organising photo calls and press conferences, writing articles, and helping to promote various campaigns.

Huerto Restaurant Puerto Banus Update

As many of you will know, we were contracted to provide PR and Marketing support and organise the launch event for a new high-class restaurant in Puerto Banus called Huerto. We were working with the restaurant from April 2011 and produced an in-depth marketing plan, a logo and colour scheme, wrote their website, wrote a press release, created online publicity with a competition, organised a number of pre-launch events and their grand opening party on 1st July.

As a result of our hard work, a huge amount of publicity was generated online and offline and the chef had many interviews on radio and TV plus coverage in some of the best local publications. We also had a large number of people attend the restaurant during the soft launch period and for the opening event.

Unfortunately, as many of you will already know, Huerto did not open for business following our launch event on the 1st July and is now permanently closed.

Start September productively with networking

August is a quiet time for businesses not involved in the tourist industry and many close their offices completely or work limited hours during this month. As the month comes to a close however, you should be thinking about how to get the best results for your business in the important months from September to December and networking is a great way to do so.

Here is a list of upcoming networking events which I have been informed about and will be attending.

Wearing unsuitable sunglasses can cause more damage than wearing none at all

This summer, Specsavers Opticas in Spain have conducted a survey about protecting the eyes from the sun, and with some interesting results.

Almost 100% of people asked know the importance of protecting their eyes from the sun, but not all of these people wear suitable sunglasses to protect their eyes from damage. According to the survey conducted in the Costas and Mallorca, at least 40% of people aged 18-34 wear sunglasses for fashion purposes as well as protection. However, not all sunglasses provide sufficient protection from damaging UV rays.

To ensure adequate sun protection, choose sunglasses that meet industry standards and carry the ‘CE’ mark which indicates these shades have met the necessary requirements for the European market.

The National College of Opticians and Optometrists in Spain (CNOO) have been campaigning for years on the importance of protecting your eyes from the damaging effects of the sun. They report on their website that close to 80% of the 12 million sun glasses sold in Spain during 2005 haven’t passed any quality control. They say “It is fundamental to use lenses with special filters that fit the following criteria: stop dangerous solar radiation reaching your eyes, like infrared and ultraviolet, and reduce the intensity of the visible radiation to remove glare and have a clear and comfortable vision. Only sun glasses bought in optical stores with advice and prescription of an optician or optometrist can guarantee the quality of the filters and the eye health of the user.”
