El Banco release imageOn the 11th of July a new restaurant is opening in Aloha Pueblo with a fun opening event, giving a new lease of life to the urbanization’s old bank and preparing delicious International Fusion cuisine in a relaxed environment.

The restaurant is being launched by Gustavo Kiguelmam and Laura de Luca, the husband and wife team behind the legendary La Red restaurant on Marbella’s beachfront. The opening will be from 7-9pm and everyone is invited, just RSVP to georgina@shawmarketingservices.com to secure your place.

Chef Giacomo Muzio is bringing his culinary skills to this quirky locale, which has given the old bank a fresh look whilst keeping a few original features such as the safes, cleverly repurposed into wine racks. The cosy restaurant has comfortable sofas, as well as a dining area and spacious terrace. The food is defined as “International, fusion cuisine, prepared fresh and made with love” and the menu includes homemade pasta and puddings, ceviche, healthy salads and thanks to the Argentinean owners – top quality meat.

Georgina Recommends – Crispy Cod, Fuengirola

IMG_2186It’s not often that we get dragged out of the confines of Marbella, but now that we’ve discovered Crispy Cod we’ll have to head down to Fuengirola more often! This is your classic British Fish & Chip Shop with all your favourites cooked just the way you remember it, but in the picturesque location of Fuengirola’s Paseo Maritimo and it’s well worth the trip.

The location– Come off the motorway at the first Fuengirola exit if coming from Marbella, just after the castle , and head to the sea, then head along the Paseo towards the centre of town and Crispy Cod is just a few blocks down by the Hotel Las Piramides. It’s a great location, overlooking the beach and sea with cracking people watching potential. They take advantage of the great spot with a comfortable terrace where you can have a beer or a cuppa with your fish and chips and be happy you left England behind, but that these guys were kind enough to bring the great food with them.

The food– Yum, yum – the menu had me drooling and torn about what to have, I hadn’t had fish and chips for five years so the smell brought back lots of memories. I was surprised by how much choice there was with options including 100% Irish beef burgers, Pukka pies, battered sausages, fish cakes, pickled eggs and even pineapple fritters.

Selecting the best food for healthy eyes

iStock_000014324709_MediumThe pressure of having a body fit for the beach always makes healthy eating more of a priority during summer months, but have you ever taken your eyes into consideration when choosing what foods to eat? Probably not, but a study has revealed that certain foods can help with Macular degeneration, so Specsavers are advising you to add these foods into your diet.

Leighton Griffiths at Specsavers Opticas Marbella explains: ‘The macula is the part of the retina that enables our most acute and detailed vision for tasks such as reading, driving, recognising faces and watching television, so it is important to protect it. It has been proven that eating a diet rich in antioxidants, especially carotenoids, is particularly beneficial.’

A study by America’s National Institute of Health, found that people eating the highest amounts of carotenoids have a 43% lower risk of developing macular degeneration than those who have very low amounts in their diet. Studies have also shown that people with higher than average intakes of antioxidants – beta-carotene, lutein and vitamins C and E – appear to have a reduced risk of developing cataracts. Foods such as pepper, broccoli, sweet potatoes, citrus fruits and dark green leafy vegetables, like spinach and kale, are rich in these antioxidants.
