Georgina Recommends – Pad Thai Wok Marbella

PadThaiWok1PadThaiWok2Pad Thai Wok is a great Thai restaurant close to the Marbella sports port which serves up really tasty Thai food with lovely service. If you like it spicy you won’t be disappointed as all the dishes can be made mild or mind blowingly hot depending on your tastes and given the normal Thai prices in Marbella it’s great value for money. It’s becoming a firm favourite of ours.

The location– Avda. Duque de Ahumada con C/. Faro, Edf El Faro 2, Local 2 Marbella.

This restaurant is on the corner of the road going down towards the Puerto Deportivo, opposite the ice cream shop El Piave and near Telepizza. It’s normally on our way back home after a few drinks at the port and is always a great place for a spontaneous bite to eat.

The food– Pad Thai Wok has authentic Thai food which is packed full of flavour. I would particularly recommend the soups which really set the taste buds alight. Tom Ka Kai with chicken and coconut milk is my favourite for the balance of spice and creamy taste and bags of flavour. Follow that with a curry, Pad Thai or a meat dish such as their Siam Chicken. Everything is very good, but the Pad Thai with beef or chicken and XL noodles is hard to beat and we normally order a couple!

Don’t forget your sunglasses

sunglasses from Specsaver SpainHOT sunshine, sandy beaches and a sparkling sea are all recipes for a great summer, but can cause problems for your eyes. The experts from Specsavers Opticas have released the following advice for keeping your eyes in top condition this summer.

1. Protect your eyes from the sun

Leighton Griffiths, Store Director of Specsavers Marbella, says: ‘Excessive exposure to UV rays causes a painful irritation to the cornea at the front of the eye. In extreme circumstances this can lead to cancer of the cornea, age related macular degeneration, cataracts and even blindness.’

Everyone should wear sunglasses to protect their eyes from the sun. Check sunglasses comply with UNE-EN 1836:2006 + A1:2008 or bear the CE kite mark and are marked UV 400. If you already have sunglasses and aren’t sure if they offer the right protection, take them into your local Specsavers to be UV tested. Look for styles which are large, or wraparound to minimise light entering the eyes from the side.

Arboretum Marbella Offers World-Class Permaculture Course

pdcArboretum Marbella is an environmental project which has been operating on the Costa del Sol for two years and held the first Permaculture Design Course in the area in 2012. This course will be held again in October and is an internationally recognised qualification which in the words of Director Alejandro César Orioli, “is one of the most effective ways to  face the current financial crisis and build a sustainable future through education, enabling and taking action.”

Permaculture is a holistic system which deals with the design, planning and construction of spaces where people can relate to nature in an ecologically sustainable way, but which is socially beneficial and economically viable.

By applying different techniques into the various components of a system you can make all the elements work to their best ability, reduce energy use and get the best returns in a sustainable way. Techniques can be applied to the construction of homes and buildings, food production, energy use, water use etc. to make them more sustainable and productive.

18th of JULY “HIGH TEA” WITH JOSEPH KLIBANSKY

Dreams of Eden

Dreams of Eden

The Red Penguin Art Gallery is proud to invite you to a “Meet and greet” with new media artist Joseph Klibansky on 18th July from 18.00-20.00, during which time he will be introducing his latest masterpieces which have just been launched at the famous ART BASEL/MIAMI and will be displayed at the gallery from 17th.

Klibanksy’s work features as part of the current Beautiful & the Best exhibition with stunning artworks from MARC LAGRANGE, Isabell Beyel, Karel Appel, Corneille, Lita Cabellut, Walasse Ting and Cats&Withoos, so this is a great opportunity to meet the artist and enjoy the works.

Klibansky’s main inspirations are architecture and the city, particularly the accelerated, compressed and densely populated urban environments of the 21st Century that he smoothly alters into a futurist landscape of the imagination. In “Violet Skies” and “Dreams of Eden”, Joseph will show us another vision of two of his dream cities: New York and Paris.
