Arboretum Education for Sustainability Programme
ARBORETUM MARBELLA is continuing its Education for Sustainability programme on 2nd, 3rd and 4th December. This workshop titled The Ecological and Biodynamic Garden will be the second module in a series of ten workshops which began in October and will be held every two months until June 2013. Each course includes both theory and practice in the field.
The course is being led by Alonsi Navarro and Francois-Luc Gauthier. Alonsi Navarro, a professional farmer, is third generation of a farming family in the Serrania de Ronda. He has been farming using biodynamic methods for 10 years now and almost 5 years ago began to actively conserve and recover old varieties. François-Luc Gauthier is former head of the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris.
The December course will include a fascinating talk by Michel and Jude Fanton, the celebrated Australian experts in permaculture who worked for many years with Bill Mollison, known as the Father of Permaculture.
Michel and Jude are passionate about the care of the soil and conservation of biodiversity of edible plants. In 1986, they founded the Seed Savers Network, a charity which has preserved more than 8000 varieties of food plants and created hundreds of local seed exchange networks in Australia and throughout the world. On Friday, December 2 they will share their knowledge and extensive experience in a 2-hour lecture and workshop on seed extraction..
The December course is 20 hours long, and covers the following interesting topics:
