Georgina recommends …… Hacienda Patagonica Argentinian Restaurant

Hacienda Patagonica is where we go when we fancy steak but don’t want to break the bank. For me, it has the rare combination of great atmosphere, lovely service, delicious food and reasonable prices and we love it.

The location: Calle Acera de la Marina 2. It’s in a central location, just 5 minutes walk from the Avenida del Mar and Marbella cafe. Walk down the side of the Parque Alameda by the horses down towards the sea, follow that road round and you’ll find it.

The food: Haciendo Patagonica does really unusual “Argentinian tapas”, specialising in really great meat at reasonable prices.

Our favourite dishes are their empanadillas and provelleta (grilled provelone cheese which you dunk bread into) to start with and their mixed bbq to share for the second course. The bbq is a selection of different types of meats, sausage and black pudding, served with a baked potato. It’s a great way to try cuts you wouldn’t normally sample and is excellent value for money. You can also buy a specific steak such as the Patagonia special, which is stunning but a bit more expensive. I have noticed they also do a lunch menu which looks good.

The service: Very often restaurants let themselves down with bad service, but not this one. The team are friendly, welcoming and really know their stuff. They are happy to make recommendations on food and wine and will try to keep your drinks topped up, unless they get really busy.

The decor: This is a really cozy place with red walls, dark wood tables and chairs and great images which transport you to Argentina. Unlike many places in this area, it works just as well in the winter as it does in the summer and is the perfect place to escape a chilly winter’s evening.

The price: We normally come out of there spending 20€ per head for two courses including wine, it really is great value. You can push the boat out more though if you all have individual steaks and desserts.
