Georgina Recommends – Pad Thai Wok Marbella
Pad Thai Wok is a great Thai restaurant close to the Marbella sports port which serves up really tasty Thai food with lovely service. If you like it spicy you won’t be disappointed as all the dishes can be made mild or mind blowingly hot depending on your tastes and given the normal Thai prices in Marbella it’s great value for money. It’s becoming a firm favourite of ours.
The location– Avda. Duque de Ahumada con C/. Faro, Edf El Faro 2, Local 2 Marbella.
This restaurant is on the corner of the road going down towards the Puerto Deportivo, opposite the ice cream shop El Piave and near Telepizza. It’s normally on our way back home after a few drinks at the port and is always a great place for a spontaneous bite to eat.
The food– Pad Thai Wok has authentic Thai food which is packed full of flavour. I would particularly recommend the soups which really set the taste buds alight. Tom Ka Kai with chicken and coconut milk is my favourite for the balance of spice and creamy taste and bags of flavour. Follow that with a curry, Pad Thai or a meat dish such as their Siam Chicken. Everything is very good, but the Pad Thai with beef or chicken and XL noodles is hard to beat and we normally order a couple!
The nice thing about this place is you can mix and match, so the Pad Thai can be served with different noodles, you can choose the ingredients for the curries and a range of different flavours and choose from mild, medium, hot or very hot. We are often disappointed with the level of spice in Spanish restaurants, but not here! We asked for hot and it blew our heads off, so we’ve gone back down to medium, but our more hardy friends still go for the hot and enjoy it. I really can’t fault the food, the only thing to mention is the curries are quite small, so if you are hungry go for the extra curry bowl option to boost the portions.
We’ve also found you tend to get more meat in the Pad Thai if you order different meats when you’re in a group, we reckon they might just cook it all in one wok so then the distribution of the meat isn’t always great.
The service – The staff in here are so sweet, they really are a joy. They fuss over our little one so much that he is in seventh heaven and we can focus on the food. They are always quick with a smile and quick to top up drinks and generally help – really lovely.
The decor/atmosphere – It’s got quite a cool yet casual café vibe to it, with lots of space between the tables inside and a big terrace outside with sofas.
The price – Pad Thai Wok is great value for money and always surprising just how cheap it is. The main courses are particularly good value with a chicken or beef Pad Thai setting you back around €7.50 and a chicken curry at 8.50€ which comes with rice. What also makes a real difference is that the cañas are a really good price, 1.10€ if I remember rightly. Three of us ordered way too much and enjoyed quite a few drinks and it was just under 50€ – really good value for money.
