Gratiferia at Arboretum Marbella
Lucas and I went down to Gratiferia on Sunday morning with a bag full of baby clothes he’d grown out of and my old roller blades that haven’t been out of the cupboard for five years. I thought it would be a good way to make some space in our cupboards and pass on some clothes which were hardly used.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect and was rather unprepared, but I was given a blanket to be able to lay it all out on and then went for a wander around all the other “stalls”. There was a big range of things including books, toys, clothes, shoes and free lemonade which was much needed in the heat. We picked up a great toy and a really sweet book which are already favourites and obviously cleared much needed space from another Mum’s nursery.
As well as just the stuff, there was a lovely spirit of community and generosity in the air with everyone giving away their things for free and hoping to help others in the process. It was a strange feeling just picking things up without paying and everyone spoke to each other to say hello and find out if it was OK to take it. No one took advantage, we all just took things we wanted and needed and I’d say most people brought more than they took away.
There were even people giving free haircuts and belly dancing performances which made the day a lot of fun. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay as it was a bit hot for the little one, but next time they are going to have it in the evening to avoid that problem. It’s going to be held on Sunday 1st July from 7pm to 11pm and I am going to start putting things aside to take along. It’s really a lovely event and a gorgeous setting to enjoy it in.
