
17 years of Shaw Marketing Services
Thank goodness for social media! LinkedIn informed us that this April marks the 17th anniversary of Shaw Marketing Services, and without the reminder it would have definitely passed us by. It’s hard to believe that we’ve been operating for such a long time. It’s true what they say that time flies when you’re having fun! Our business has changed a lot since we launched in April 2008, and it’s good to look back on what we’ve achieved.
We started with no investment, during the 2008 financial crash – not the most auspicious of beginnings. But thanks to a low risk, do-it-yourself strategy and one initial client, we were able to grow from our humble beginnings and establish ourselves as a leading marketing and PR agency on the Costa del Sol.
Due to Georgina’s PR background, that was the area we started developing first and became what we were most known for. When we secured the PR contract with Specsavers in Spain in 2010, that felt like a turning point, and was the start of a relationship of 14 years, before the company pulled out of Spain at the end of last year.
Through our PR services, we’ve launched restaurants, beauty brands, hair salons, real estate agents, co-working centres, shops and soft play centres. We’ve promoted events, and boosted the brands of established businesses including schools, hotels and restaurants through media exposure, all while building relationships with journalists, locally, nationally and internationally.
Our PR expertise led us to be approached by The Marbella Club Hotel to be their Communication Manager, which we performed as an agency for two years. This experience opened the doors to another long relationship with a hotel, this time Kempinski Hotel Bahía in 2016, which was a fantastic experience.
But the rise of digital marketing and social media started moving the business away from a reliance on PR, to become trusted social media managers and copywriters for websites and blogs. This is something we really enjoy and has grown to become a very important aspect of our day-to-day role.
We’ve written content and managed social media accounts for a wide range of brands, from real estate to financial advisors, restaurants to fashion, and this is a continued growth area for us.
Georgina loves to write, and so blogging is a wonderful outlet for her and we’ve written hundreds of thousands of words for real estate, holiday rental companies, healthcare, finance and more.
She also loves to teach and has a passion for enabling businesses to take control of their marketing and not let it hold them back. She’s supported businesses by sharing her knowledge of marketing, public speaking and more, through talks, workshops, videos and over 1,000 marketing articles. We’ve also introduced interns to the wonderful world of marketing, setting them on the path to an exciting career and developing their skills.
What’s next for Shaw Marketing Services?
We’re loving the variety of our roles, training business owners and young people, writing blogs, managing social media and undertaking PR campaigns.
Social media management and marketing training are areas we’d like to expand, now that we have capacity to take on clients. Georgina was proud to be the MC for the Costa Women conference this year and would love to do more of that.
You never know what will be around the corner, but be assured, we aren’t going anywhere!!
